It has
not been that long since TWICE released
What Is Love. But, the girls are back
again with their second single this year. It called Dance The Night Away and launched on Monday, July 9th
2018.
Dance The Night Away is title track for Summer Nights album. This is the repackage for TWICE previous What Is Love album. Through their
newest single, TWICE tries to take part in K-Pop music scene summer releases.
So how
is the result? Could Dance The Night Away
become this year’s summer anthem? Check out my review for TWICE newest
single here………..
TWICE
attempts something different with Dance
The Night Away. They decide to play out electronic dance music genre.
Synthesizer sound and strong beat dominated this song since the beginning. This
added with breakdown in refrain part that makes the genre influence more
prominent.
Electronic
dance genre might be new for TWICE. However, the approach sounds similar with
other group songs. The breakdown does not have interesting twist. The arrangement
becomes repetitive too, which is a pity since the verses quite solid.
Still, Dance The Night Away is a safe release
from TWICE. It grows on us because of its catchy phrase and lively vibe. Plus,
the girls sing on their vocal range that makes Dance The Night Away more enjoyable.
Dance The Night Away talks about having fun in the summer. It
captures well on the music video with all those beautiful ocean shot. We also
see the girls play around between each other. Unfortunately, TWICE trapped into
the typical music video theme for summer release. The cinematography does not
present something new.
It was
the girls themselves who carried the music video. Once again, TWICE proves that
they have great camera presence. They know how to put on expression to make Dance The Night Away music video more
interesting.
The
styling is great too. All of their clothes fit summer season while still age
appropriate. TWICE manage to showcase sweet and sexy side of them without being
too much as well as losing themselves.
Dance The Night Away is a fun summer track. We could easily
enjoy and sing to it. But, this is not the anthem. It does not have many
differences with summer single from other groups in terms of music and concept.
On a
side note, I wish TWICE tones it down a bit. This year’s releases do not as
smashing as their previous one. It is better for them to take time rather than producing
something undeveloped. At this stage of their career, it is fine not releasing
more than two tracks a year.
