After almost two years leaving K-Pop scene and focusing on Japanese market while still doing their Asia tour, 2PM, the beastly boy group from JYP Entertainment, is finally making their comeback!!!!! This comeback is very special to me because this boy group is my most favorite boy group and also, 2PM happened to be the first K-Pop boy group that made me interested (thanks to Taecyeon and Wooyoung acting on 2011 KBS Drama, Dream High). Beside that, believe it or not, this year marked the first time I experienced 2PM comeback when I enter to K-Pop world. Apparently, the time where I entered K-Pop world is also the time where 2PM about to finish their Hands Up, single and album promotion, in 2011. That's why I have to say this comeback gives sooooooooo many feels to me :""""""""""")
Okay, enough with my ranting. On May 6th, 2013, 2PM officially made their comeback with their third album titled Grown. This time, they made an interesting moves by having two title track. This is not a new thing actually because Big Bang already did this last year with their Alive album. Unlike 2PM first title track in this album, Comeback When You Hear This Song, which released on the same day with their album, their second and main title track, All Day I Think Of You, will be released on May 11th, 2013. It's weird I know, but let's say JYPE tried to do unusual things as a surprise gift for Hottests, 2PM fans who already waited for them for a long time.
So, here I present to you, the newest 2PM music video, Comeback When You Hear This Song.....................
2PM played it safe this time because this song is soooooo 2PM, soooo JYP (yes, obviously with the famous JYP whisper :p). The good thing is that I think they tried to remind people with 2PM by using their usual music since it has been a long time they comeback in K-Pop market. The bad thing is that there will be tendency that people get bored with it and think that 2PM cannot do anything else (Ouch...it hurts). As for myself, hmmmm.....I kinda into the first opinion, but at the same time, I expect more actually from this song. No, this song is not bad, the song is sooo good and catchy, especially the refrain part (Guess what, I already hummed the refrain part all day long yesterday!!! Hahahahaha). But, it has no climax. The first time I heard this song, I was like, "Wait, the song just ended like that?". Still, it is a great song and it's kinda forgivable since this is not their main title track. Let's just think positive that they keep something bigger with All Day I Think Of You :)
On another side, I really really love how each member improved their vocal on this song!!!! I don't need to say anything about Jun brothers, Jun. K. and Junho (they are not blood related by the way), because they always flawless. Wooyoung also good as always, I love the music transition from slow to fast in his part. But, the biggest surprise of this song came from Chansung and Nichkhun. Believe it or not, Chansung is the one who started this song and he sang this song, not rapped!!! As for his voice, well, he may not be as good as Jun. K. in sudden time, but he really improved. And yes, I am so proud of him. He showed people that we can be better as long as we practice hard (same goes for SHINee Taemin) :)
As for Nichkhun, finally, it's about time they let him sing instead of rapping!!! Thank God, because as much as I love him, I have to admit that his rapping are awkward and cringe-worthy. Sorry, Khunbb :") His voice, or should I say angelic voice hehehehe, is improved greatly too like Chansung. Unfortunately, Taecyeon, the rapper, still stuck in his mediocre rap and I really wish he will improve to just like others :)
For the concept, 2PM goes with a grown and mature image, just like their album title, with dark and neutral colors, like dark blue, black, brown, and white for their suits, suspenders, and coats. Honestly, I super love this concept!!! It's classy, neat, and sexy, which really suited them. You know what? I cannot choose who is the best with this concept because all of them bring their own mature charm with this concept. Beside that, I love how this concept represents their current phase now. 2PM became mature after five years being in this industry, experienced scandals, and two years left K-Pop scene. They are no longer those angsty or acrobatic guys like in the past (although I still want to see this kind of concept) with thick make up and ripping of their shirts action. They are grown up men now.
Moreover, it's kind of refreshing to see them go with this calmer concept with conservative clothes and neutral colors. Why? Because until now, we have been bombarded mostly by colorful concepts from boy groups, like SHINee, Infinite, BTOB, Teen Top. It's nice to see them do something different. Another thing would be I love how they are not trying to bring back their tough guy image (Without U and I'll Be Back era) eventhough nowadays, many rookies, such as B.A.P, goes for this kind of direction. I think it's not that they are afraid, but back to my previous point, I think they already grown up, so they may think that they do not need to bring back beastly idol image again.
Meanwhile, the music video itself represents the song lyrics, which is about a man who wants his former girlfriend to comeback to him after he hurt her. There is a story line in the music video and surprise!!!! It represents the six deadly sins from their third teaser code. Wow...who would have thought about this because me, myself, thought that they would go for something strong and full of fantasy because of this teaser code and apparently in the end, I am getting trolled hahahahahahaha.
Anyway, the story of the music video is about how these 2PM boys hurt their girlfriend pride (pride is actually the seventh deadly sin that is not being mentioned in the teaser code) by doing these six deadly sins. The deadly sins were being showed explicitly through several things such as necklace, car license plate, and caller ID. I like how they showed the deadly sins through things that near to reality, which is man and woman break up thingy. I mean we always thought that these sins related with something big and cruel such as murders. Because of this, we often forgot that these sins can happened on our every day life unconsciously.
So far, I like the music video. It's simple, but still meaningful with the story line. The song also goes well with the music video because I think it sounds more pleasant listening if I listen to it while watch the music video. I also love the choreography for this song that being showed in the music video. If they used chair for their Japanese released, Beautiful, in Comeback When You Hear This Song, they used stairs. Moreover, the choreography is still complicated although they toned down a bit. The weird only weird thing from the music video is that how come these six guys dating the same girl??? I mean seriously, don't you think this girl also get the sin too because of this??? Hahahahahaha.
Comeback When You Hear This Song is an ear-catchy song eventhough it's lack of climax. Great concept and music video. I must say that this wait is not that disappointing eventhough I expect something more. I am pretty sure that people will comeback to 2PM when they hear this song just like Taecyeon's wish on their latest interview. And at last, be prepared for their main title track, All Day I Think Of You :)
PS : If you are looking for the whole album review, please be patient because I will do it after All Day I Think Of You released ;)
Rating : 3.75/5
