When I first made this blog, I already mentioned that basically, I am going to write a review about everything like movies and music videos. I have reviewed movies and music videos on my previous posts, and now, finally, I am going to write about something that I haven't write before. I am going to write a review about a music album!!!!
Well, at first, I actually kinda hesitant to write an album review because I'm not an expert in music. I mean who am I suddenly writing about this with little knowledge about music? But, then, I thought that it is okay to write it because this is my blog and I'm free to share my thought here. sooo, tadaaahhh....this is my review and please don't be mean on me :")
The first album that I'm going to review is The First Collage by Yang Yoseob!!!! Yang Yoseob is the main vocalist of Beast, one of my most favorite K-pop group and apparently, he is also my favorite from the group :) He was sooooo cuteeee and adorableee. I feel like I want to squeeze him hahahahahaha. Beside that, he also has this super amazing voice!!! I also love his nice personality!!! He has high determination, he never give up about everything, he has polite attitudes, and he really care about his fans. Oh...and I got this cute, yet unimportant moment with him when Beast had a concert in Indonesia which I will explain on my concert review later on this blog :D :D :D
Okay, enough with the fangirling thing!!! Hahahahahaha. Anyway, because of that, I had this high anticipation when Cube Entertainment, his management, announced that he is going to have a solo album. Moreover, it also stated that Yong Junhyung, the rapper from Beast who also composed some of their songs, will become the producer of this album. I was reaaallyyy happy because I know Junhyung is talented!! And I feel like I want other people to recognize his talent.
I was really curious about what type of music that Yoseob and Junhyung will bring in this album. I read it somewhere that before joining Beast, Yoseob often sing rock music. But, it didn't mean that his album will have rock music genre because Junhyung is more into R&B and Hip Hop music. I was hoping that Yoseob will bring something different from Beast because recently, I was amazed by Kim Sunggyu, the main vocalist of another K-pop group named Infinite, solo album since he brought something which was totally different from Infinite image, style, and type of music. Well, shortly, beside anticipation, I also have high expectation on Yoseob solo album.
So, here is my thoughts and comments on his solo album. Excuse my limit knowledge on music and also my fangirl review on his songs :"""")
The first track is Look at Me Now. Well, this song is a good choice as an opening song for this album since it has an upbeat and a bit "summer time" type of music. This song will pumped up people spirit and make them jump. This is a type of song that will grown on you because it has repetitive refrain (Baby, Look at Me Now~~~). At first, I'm not really into this song, but after a few listen, I kinda like it :D
The second track is Caffeine which is also a title track of this song. I like this song!!! This also a type of song that will grown on you because this song gets better and better every time I listen to it again and again. Yoseob also collaborated with Junhyung in this song and their voices are blend together with this song which make this song so soothing. Well, I think Yoseob voice is more suitable in this type of song. I also like the Music Video!! It matched with the lyrics of the song eventhough Yoseob was actually too cute to act as an angry man on this Music Video :D I like the setting and the choreography too!! Yoseob once again proved that he is not only an amazing singer, but also an amazing dancer :)
Eventhough the song is good, actually, there is the biggest problem in Caffeine which is this song is too similar to Beast songs. When I first listen to this song, I automatically get the "Beast" vibe. This song somehow reminded me of "I Knew It", one of Beast songs. Maybe it is because of Yoseob voice and Junhyung rap which already identic with Beast, but, truthfully, I am a bit disappointed with it. Anyway, the song is still good :D
The third track is Just Do What You Always Did. This is my favorite track from this album!! I love the way Yoseob sing this song. I don't know why, but I feel he really put all of his emotions into this song. Beside that, this song is also showed different side of Yoseob since it is different from other Beast songs. I like the opening of this song when there is a sound of car honks. I also like the lyrics eventhough it just soo sad :(
The fourth track is Even Then I. This is another break up song from Yoseob. This is a type of song that suit Yoseob voice. Those high notes thingy are identic with Yoseob. It also showed his amazing vocal abilities. This song was really chillin', it's like you can hear it on the cafe while drinking coffee at rainy days.
The fifth and also the last track is You Don't Know. Well, the starting part of this song shocked me because I rarely hear Yoseob sing with a low voice and actually, it was good too eventhough I still like his high voice more. This song also a bit more upbeat than the other songs, well, actually, not as upbeat as Look at Me Now, so it is kind of refreshing after hearing the other three previous slow-medium tempo songs.
Overall, The First Collage was an "ear pleasure" album because the songs were really calming and it shows Yoseob soothing vocal ability. The concept was also interesting and suited the album. But, unfortunately, the whole vibe of the album is reminded me of Beast, especially the title track. Maybe like I mentioned earlier, Yoseob voice is too identic with Beast. I was actually hoping it could shows another side of Yoseob just like Sunggyu album, but it seems that my hope does not fully fulfilled. Well, let's hope that my hope can be fulfilled on his next album because I think that there is still more of him that need to be unleashed. Anyway, congratulations for your solo debut as a singer, Yang Yoseob, and as a producer, Yong Junhyung!!!! You make us proud :"""""")
My favorite track : Just Do What You Always Did.
Best to be listen at : When you are driving in a car to reach far destination and
also when you are chillin' in a cafe in a rainy days.
Rating : 3.6/5
