[MUSIC REVIEW] 2NE1 - Falling in Love (2013)

2NE1 is baaaccckkkkkk after busy touring around the world and only released one freakin' single, I Love You, last year. It seems that YG Entertainment tried to make up Blackjacks (2NE1 fans) longing in 2012 by preparing a bigger plan for them this year. Apparently, the lovely 2NE1 girls supposes to release FOUR NEW SINGLE EACH MONTH from June to October. Sounds crazy, right? But hey, it's not YG and 2NE1 if it's not crazy. Beside that, this year, YG planned to make their artists to not only perform once a week in one television channel (SBS Inkigayo), but also in several television channels. Even better, we can also see more YG artists in variety shows and 2NE1 seemed already started that with CL and Dara appeared on SBS Incarnation. Yaaayyyyy....for more exposure!!!!!!

So, while waiting to see CL, Dara, Bom, and Minzy on television more (their comeback stage started next week), let's hear their latest attempt, their new single this year, Falling in Love.....

To be honest, I did not expect much from 2NE1 with this single. When they said that they will go on reggae genre, many people had skepticism towards that and I also the one who got influenced by people skepticism. I was afraid that it will turn out to be awkward or too much just like how I first heard I Love You (though I love it now, but still, the acoustic version waaayyyy better than the original).

Buuuuuuuttttttttt, it turned out that my assumptions were wrong. Falling in Love shocked me, in a good way. This song turned out to be a nice surprise. It's catchy, chilling, and pleasant listening. In short, Falling in Love exceed my expectations because truthfully, I did not expect anything from it.

The song lyrics also refreshing since 2NE1 rarely sing a song about falling in love. Am I the only one who feels that they seem to become "more woman" since I Love You in terms of concept and lyrics?

Then, how about the reggae genre? Did they nail it? Hmm....pretty much, yeah though this song is actually not a full reggae song (yes, it's not a new thing in K-Pop world where we being fooled). It's a mix between reggae with Middle Eastern type of music accompanied by strong percussion and tambourine. There is still electronic music sounds in this song to emphasize 2NE1 real music identity.

As for the song part, Minzy's part is the best, it's beautiful and smooth. I love her voice here and it seems that her voice suits this genre the most. Bom's part is great as always (Oh God...I always love her voice!!! My favorite voice in K-Pop!!!). For CL, am I the only one who like her gorgeous and fierce part here? Yes sometimes it sounds a little bit off, but still, it matched the song. Meanwhile Dara part, unfortunately is one of the worst thing in this song. That auto tunes destroyed everything (her second part was good actually). I mean please can you guys stop doing auto tunes to hear voice??? I know Dara is the weakest singer, but it does not mean that you have to auto tunes her single line everytime!!!!

Move on to the music video, it was engaging, meaning that it makes us want to watch it again. We also don't care the fact that the whole setting that seems to being shot in the studio (don't forget to mention the fake beach) and there is no match concept between each setting (the basketball ground, the beach, and the "Egyptian/Greek Queen" setting. Also my pretty unnie, Park Bom, no one wears that kind of costume to watch basketball game :)). Why? It's because we enjoy the music video despite the flaws.

Bonus points would be the two eye candies throughout the music video, Lee Soohyuk and Hong Jonghyun (I literally screamed when they appear hahahahaha), that makes the music video more appealing. The girls themselves contributing in pleasing our eyes too since they able to carry the concept nicely and it's refreshing to see them do this rare concept. My comments for each girl would be; Minzy is getting prettier each day, CL is fabulous, Dara surprisingly pulls the blonde hair well while Bom.........what happened to your face????? Sorry to say, it looks weird at some point. Ah...I miss the old Park Bom :((((

Overall, Falling in Love provides a pleasant surprise for me. Love the song, the music video, and the concept. The flaw would be how I wish they stop put auto tunes in Dara's voice (and I feel really really really bad saying this because Bom is my favorite, how I wish they stop doing anything to Bom's face :((( She's already pretty). Anyway, cannot wait for their next single!!!! Hoping for a fierce and powerful single for them like Fire or I'm The Best. And could I wish for another ballads please like Lonely or It Hurts? ;;;;;)))))))

Lastly, good luck for this year 2NE1!!!!! Hope you guys nail it and just don't force yourself to much :)
