Happy New Year, everyone and say hello to Chungha who starts 2019 with a bang! On Wednesday January 2nd
2019, she released a single album called Gotta
Go with same name title track. Chungha continues her tradition to have new single on first month of the year.
Gotta Go is one of my anticipated releases this year since Chungha has
become one of female soloists that I look forward to. Just two years from her
debut, she manages to release solid singles with distinct signature style.
Chungha is also a whole package of performer if you consider her vocal, dance
talent, and stage presence. It amazes me to see how she becomes the most
successful IOI member after Produce 101 Season 1.
With Gotta Go, Chungha
tries to explore different side of her. This is also a testament to see whether
she capable in maintaining her rising popularity on K-Pop music scene. Check
out my review of Chungha’s newest single, Gotta
Go, below………
Chungha leaves her lively image and showcases darker side on Gotta Go. This song has sultry vibe
because Middle-Eastern inspired music becomes its main theme. However, it still
maintains Chungha signature dance style.
Gotta Go starts slow with keyboard sound. It speeds up during pre-chorus
since drum and strong beat appears. Middle-Eastern inspired sound dominates the
refrain part, which adds unusual twist to the song. I love Gotta Go’s dynamic! Each build up follows with another strong part
that makes the song exciting.
The refrain part also adds refreshing dynamic to Gotta Go. Chungha does not stick to the
current trend in K-Pop female soloists song where refrain part only has music
breakdown. She sings an actual refrain. This makes the refrain as Gotta Go’s strongest point,
In terms of vocal, Chungha shines in Gotta Go. She shows her capabilities in belting out high notes. I
love her vocal during refrain and second chorus. Still, she should plays out
more with different vocal range. Most of Gotta
Go parts has high note. I am curious to hear how she tackles low notes.
Gotta Go’s music video follows the song dark theme despite having lyrics
about letting go a man after midnight. Red and black become prominent tone on
this music video. The different lighting also emphasizes Gotta Go’s sultry vibe. The only minus part would be its fast
editing because it could confuse viewers.
Gotta Go music video does not has many settings, but Chungha presence
manages to make it more appealing. She commands the screen whether when she
dances complicated choreography or poses directly to camera. Her styling is
gorgeous too.
Chungha successfully maintains her position as promising female
soloist in K-Pop music scene with Gotta
Go. This song has great dynamic and solid vocal. It allows Chungha to
explore different side of her without losing signature style. The music video
becomes compelling addition to Gotta Go with
all those mesmerizing visuals.
I hope Chungha continues last year’s tradition to release second
single. I cannot wait to see what she has in store throughout 2019. Way to go,
Chungha!
